Spink 17041 – Great Britain Stamps and Postal History

The morning of the sale commences with a fine section of over 100 lots of Postal History, starting with sixteenth century letters from the Corsini correspondence, Bishop marks with two 1661 (first year) items, “Dockwra’s” with all the different offices represented, Parliamentary items, 1840 Mulready, etc. The afternoon session starts with the Charles Hamilton collection of covers, this includes a fine Penny Black first day cover, a wonderful strike of the distinctive Wotton under Edge Maltese Cross on a cover, a “turned cover” bearing both the Penny Black and Two Pence blue, one of only two known covers originating from China bearing a Penny Black and many other fine rarities. The sale continues with Line Engraved Proofs and Essays, superb Line engraved and surface printed issues, Officials with the Stephen LeVine collection, etc.
