Mail from India to Greece 1868: Cover from Chinsurah, Bengal to Corfu, Greece endorsed at top ‘via Bombay and Alexandria, by Austrian Steamer’, franked by India 1866 4 a. green in a horizontal pair, tied by ‘B/85’ octagonal handstamps in black with Chinsurah datestamp on reverse in red, ‘Travelling Post / Bengal / No. 1’ cds and Bombay transit cds (Feb 24). Manuscript notation ’50’ (lepta) due in red (30 lepta ship rate plus 20 lepta internal charge) and franked by 1868 10 l. orange on greenish and 40 l. dull rosy mauve on greyish tied by ‘Kerkyra’ datestamps (March 11, julian) in black. The addressee’s name excised but an unbelievably rare cover – just two are recorded with Indian stamps in combination with Large Hermes. A rarity. Illustrated in ‘Les Tarifs Helléniques’ on page 208.
